Science Week
Science Week kicks off this Monday March 9! We have three incredible events lined up, culminating in our famous annual Egg Drop Challenge featuring the Seattle Fire Department and their aerial ladder truck. Check out the full line up of events below.
Radical Reactions!
A LIVE science show presented by the Pacific Science Centre.
When: Monday, March 9 | 12:45 PM & 2:30 PM
Where: Pathfinder Cafeteria
Who: Students only (Sorry parents!)
We’re starting with a bang! The Pacific Science Center’s Science on Wheels is visiting for a live show featuring blue flames, exploding Ziploc bags, and a "foam fountain" finale. We’ve split the school into two sessions so every student gets a front-row seat to the action.
Maker’s Night!
Design, Build, Test, Repeat.
When: Wednesday, March 11 | 3:25 PM – 7:00 PM
Where: School Gym
Who: Students & Guardians (Not a drop-off event)
Materials: We’ll provide basic tools/supplies, but please bring your own (and extras to share!).
Flexible Timing: Stay for 20 minutes or the full three hours - whatever fits your schedule.
Want to get a head start on your egg-protection vehicle? Join us to plan, build, and test your designs.
The Big Drop.
Our Infamous 70ft Egg-Drop Challenge
When: Friday, March 13 | 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Where: Cafeteria & Playground
Who: Students & Guardians (Not a drop-off event) Special Guests: The Seattle Fire Department
The Grand Finale kicks off at 6pm sharp in the Cafeteria:
6:00 PM: Build time in the Cafeteria. We’ll have a host of tools and materials, but feel free to bring your own from home - and extras to share if you can!
7:00 PM: We’ll head outside to watch the drops from [at least] 70 feet in the air!
Weather Watch
Our firefighters aren't afraid of a little rain, so the drop is ON regardless of weather. Bring a jacket or umbrella just in case, and if you have a pop-up shelter you can share, bring that too!
Since the sun sets at 7:00 PM, we’ll probably be dropping in the twilight. We’ll have glowsticks for our builders, but feel free to add LEDs, glow paint, or stickers to your build to help them stand out. (Note: For safety, no real fire/flames please!)
Optional Challenges
Your No.1 objective is to have a blast! But if you want to push your engineering skills, try one of these optional challenges:
The Minimalist:
Use only one material and one fastener (e.g., newspaper and rubber bands).
No Air Resistance:
No parachutes or sails allowed!
The Naked Egg:
No padding can directly touch your egg.
Nature Only:
Use only natural materials like leaves, twigs, and grass.
