Heybrook Lookout Trail

If you’re looking to escape the insanity of remote education on early-dismissal Wednesday, consider this hike!   A steep hour(ish) ascent rewards your family with 9 flights of stairs ending in the view from a bonafide lookout tower!

One of my 6 year-old boys and I hiked the trail last Wednesday, after wrapping-up our remote learning.  With traffic and circumventing the defunct West Seattle Bridge, the trailhead is about a 1.25 – 1.5 hour drive.   Google knows the route, just navigate to “Heybrook Lookout Trailhead”.

Thankfully, we had the trail to ourselves and were able to hangout at the tower to watch the sunset against the smoke-haze hanging in the sky (and take in some of the wisdom scrawled on the ceiling and beams).

The Washington Trails Association’s article on the trail is here.
